SMA RF coaxial connector was designed as OSM connector by Bendix company and omni spectrum company in the late 1950s. It was one of the most commonly used RF / microwave connectors at that time. Initially, SMA connectors were designed for 0.141 "semi-rigid coaxial cables and precision connectors for microwave applications in the military industry, filled with polytetrafluoroethylene. The connector with inner diameter of outer conductor of 2.4mm and impedance of 50 ohm is mechanically compatible with 2.4mm connector, which is 1.85mm connector with inner diameter of outer conductor of 1.85mm and impedance of 50 ohm. Because of their small inner diameter, they work at higher frequencies, with nominal frequencies up to 50GHz and 67ghz respectively. Remember that they must not be connected with 2.92mm, 3.5mm or SMA connectors, otherwise the connector will be damaged directly!
